on May 16, 2016 BHS Alumni Association proudly presented scholarships to four outstanding seniors. 

Will Lambson - Will has made the most of his time at BHS. As a dedicated student, an athlete and a leader, he is currently very involved in Baseball, playing on the varsity team. He’s played varsity baseball all four years at BHS, along with varsity football, where he was Lineman of the Year in 2013 and won the Coaches Award in Fall, 2015. Click here for more.

Ilana Parness - Ilana’s family has resided in the Burlingame community for decades, including her grandparents, her uncle, and both of her parents. Her father, Alan Parness, graduated from BHS in 1982. Her sister, Sabrina, received a BHSAA scholarship in 2014. Family experiences motivated Ilana to actively participate in Relay for Life to support people with cancer. Click here for more.

Sarah Shaffer - While attending Burlingame High School, Sarah has created her own private swim lesson business, been a camp counselor, a lifeguard and a swim instructor at BAC. Her mother, Pamela Kleebauer Shaffer, graduated from BHS in 1988, and her sister, Haley, received an Alumni Scholarship when she graduated in 2015. Sarah founded the Burlingame Triathlon Club, was  involved in SIA, Advanced Leadership, Service Commission and was the Fundraising Commissioner. Click her for more.

Anna Isabella Utrata - Three generations of Anna’s family have attended BHS. Anna’s great-grandfather and her grandmother, Linda Nicolaides Merrifield, Class of 1954, graduated from Burlingame High School.  Anna started high school at Burlingame, transferred to the Fusion Academy for her sophomore and junior years, and returned as a senior to graduate from BHS. 2016 Alumni of the Year

Our Alumnus of the year, Ernest "Doc" Schlepper, Jr.,  graduated from Burlingame High School in 1972 where he excelled not only as a student but also in basketball and baseball. Doc was inducted into the BHS Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002.  His father, Ernest "Doc" Schlepper, was inducted into the BHS Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990.  He and his father are the only father-son duo to recieve this award.  Doc was inducted into the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame last year and was named Cal-Hi Sports State Coach of the Year in 2014.

Doc started his coaching career at Capuchino in 1988,  he returned to Burlingame High School to coach boy’s basketball in 1991. In 1995 his daughter transferred to Pinewood School in Los Altos and so did Doc where he has continued to coach the Pinewood girl’s basketball team.   Doc has compiled an impressive record consisting of more than 500 wins and six state championships.

Each year we honor a former student of Burlingame High School as the Alumni of the Year.

A brief overview of the criteria for nomination: All who are graduates of Burlingame High School for at least ten years at the time of their nomination. Graduates in all walks of life are included, such as the armed services, athletics, business, education, engineering, electronics, fine arts, government, law, literature, media, medicine, non-profits, performing arts, science and any other areas of contribution.
